An update for the new year! We returned from honeymoon just before Christmas to find that Dolly wasn't starting again! After all the work that she had done for the wedding. A bit of investigation showed that it was the fuel again!
We went back last weekend, jacked her up and dropped the tank. Sure enough the little joint connecting the pipe to the tank had perished, so we replaced it with a new bit and bolted everything back together. The result... improvement but still not good enough - bubbles in the line. Looks like there have been a snag in the line when the body went back on which then split in all this cold weather. New fuel line is needed!
Thought I'd mention a few extras that they did over at the 2CV Shop in the run up to the wedding.
- I asked them to re-do the exhaust joints because they were blowing again and I seem incapable of sealing them up well enough to survive motorway journeys.
- They spotted pitting on the rear brake lines and so replaced them while the body was off the chassis and replaced them.
- They noticed that one of the spark plugs was loose again. Keen readers (if I have any) will notice that this was a problem in the last MOT. Turns out the threading was worn away and the plug blew back out slightly when the engine fired. The 2CV Shop had a magic insert that is bored in to the head that effectively replaces the worn thread with a new one.
- The electrical shorts mentioned in the past had left a lot of the wires in a bad shape. They replaced the wiring loom so Dolly has all new electrics now!
- The front wings were quite damaged thanks to the narrow road I live on and the inability some people have to reverse park. When replacing these they moved the indicator repeaters from the backside of the front wings to the little side panel on the car (look at the wedding photos and you'll see). This makes the electrics a lot simpler and also makes the repeater easier to mount because the panel is flat, unlike the wing!
